Blog is a short of “weblog” and it represents a website like this one or a web page where the informations are added and updated regularly by a blogger, person or an organization.
What is a blog post?
Informations or informational content added on a blog are usually called blog posts, added by date, newest post are on the top, old ones are on the bottom of the page.
Blog post are consisted of properly formatted headers, images, videos, table of content and content of course. Which is all a part of blog SEO optimization for better content rankings.
What is blogging?
Blogging represents a form of online writing where a person (usually a blogger) express it’s personal or business opinion through a list of articles published online.
Blogging can also be a way to log your daily, monthly or yearly activities and run an online diary of some sort.
How to Start a Blog
When I was starting online, it was hard to create something that could represent yourself as a person or a blogger.
But today we have a lot’s of different options and platforms like medium, where writing and blogging became so much easier, typography so much more beautiful and reaching the right audience is right at your finger tips.
It’s true that the competition is much more fierce these days, but the tools are still here, even better ones than those when I was starting out.
So let’s get straight to the point, you want to learn on how to start a blog right?
We will need to go over few steps first:
- Step 1: Finding proper domain name like: webislove.com or google.com, etc..
- Step 3: How to Build a Blog Fast Without Programming Knowledge
- Step 2: Finding affordable and secure web hosting.
- Step 4: Finding Niche/Topic to write about, this can also go as step 1.
Platforms to Create a Blog
As in the real/offline world, you can use free and premium tools/software to start and create your blog.
I can recommend WordPress, the blog you see right now runs on wordpress, most of the websites and blogs online these days are powered by this open source tool. It has a lot of plugins which can help you to improve your blog.
Community of developers and themes are available to help you create beautiful blogs and to protect them the right way.
So here is the list of tools for creating your first blog:
WordPress.org – remember there is a difference between wordpress.org and wordpress.com
Webislove is powered by wordpress.org, an open source platform created in 2003, built on PHP and MySQL, more than 30% of all sites across the web are created with wordpress.og
WordPress.com – is a hosted solution of the same open source platform wordpress.org but they are two different companies.
What’s the difference, well you see when using wordpress.org, you use the open source software and you host it on your own domain and hosting, while with wordpress.com they host everything for you and you don’t need hosting or web domain,
But remember, when using wordpress.org like I do, you control your own domain, files and much more, while with wordpress.com your website would look something like this: webislove.wordpress.com
If you’re only starting and don’t have a big budget then choose wordpress.com, if you want to spend a few bucks on best hosting for blog and registar for domain then wordpress.org is for you.
Medium – is an online publishing platform, similar to wordpress.com but with a twist. It’s beautifully created, all of my blogs there look amazing and typography is astonishing. Started in 2012 and quickly became on of the leading tools for online publishing world and bloggers who want to start a blog in minutes.
Blogger – do I even have to mention or talk about this tool? Yes? Ok great, blogger is blog publishing service, where you can create your small blogs fast. It was created by small company and later in 2003 bought by Google. Your blog created here will be hosted on blogger subdomain like webislove.blogger.com, a lot of useful options, stats and nicely designed themes for begginers and everyone who needs to create blog fast.
Tumblr – for all of you young bloggers out there, started in 2007 tumblr is called a microblogging platform because of the short form posts that you can create and upload your multi media files. Easy to create, a bit confusing to use at the start, if you’re lazy like me and hate these long posts then tumblr is for you.
Ghost – a very new and popular open source publishing platform started in 2013, built to run your small or big company blogs and publications. Comes with a small monthly fee, but if you want to keep a piece of mind and concentrate on your writing while at the same time have your own domain name without being hosted on subdomain, it is worth to pay for the platform.
What is the difference between a blog and website?
There is no much difference when it comes to these two. Websites are built when you want to represent your company, brand, service or shop and want to make sure that all info are easily presented on a static page for the most of the time.
Blog is more of a dynamic page where you can educate your friends, customers and everyone else about the topic and connect with online audience at the right time and the right place. It give you a better way to communicate with everyone through comments and to educate about the topic you’re passionate about.
Most Popular Types of Blogs
Most popular blogs are lifestyle and financial blogs, not far from them are photo blogs too. It all depends from what people are searching for.
Web design blogs are also hugely popular on the web, as you may noticed webislove was one of those before I bought it. I really liked the domain and the fact that for me web is love and web is your chance to grow yourself both personally and in business.
Conclusion
There you go, I hope that you liked this short blog post and what it explained to you. When it comes to blogs and blogging, I can say that it changed my life way back in 2008 when I was just starting. Creating blog helped me to grow in business and to meet hundreds of thousands of people from all around the world.
It’s not that hard to start a blog, learn to code, design, make money online with it using affiliate marketing or even find the topic, the hardest part is maintaining the blog and keep on writing. Content will always be a King, and if you build it they will come.
That’s all from me for this topic, thank you for reading, stay tuned as I’m preparing a lot of new and useful articles for you in the upcoming months.
